My camera was hidden under a sweater, and the nearby bushes concealed a bouquet of flowers. I was in stealth mode for a proposal in Chicago, and was doing my best to blend in like a typical passerby.
As Jay and Lizzie approached the south garden at the Art Institute, I waited for Jay’s signal. He took both of Lizzie’s hands in his, and I darted off the bench my camera in hand.
Jay got down on one knee and asked Lizzie to marry him. What she thought was a Sunday outdoor brunch with Jay’s lab group from medical school, turned into a surprise proposal in one of the prettiest gardens in Chicago.
The Art Institute’s South Garden is one of my favorite spots in the city. It has these beautiful vines throughout that provide such a pretty backdrop for photos. Fun fact: the garden is actually build on top of an underground parking garage.
Immediately following a proposal is the perfect time for photos. Jay and Lizzie were so excited and in the moment together. They couldn’t stop smiling! 😊
After taking photos at the Art Institute’s South Garden, we headed to Lincoln Park. Once we got there, Jay and Lizzie called Lizzie’s parents in California who were waiting excitedly to hear the good news. Jay had let them know earlier that the proposal was happening that day.
To Jay and Lizzie’s surprise and amusement, when they video chatted Lizzie’s dad was wearing a suit and tie, and her mom was all dressed up as well. I guess you can say, they were all ready for the good news! 😉
Congrats, Lizzie and Jay! I had so much fun capturing this special moment for you two.
